"Bar Owners' Obligations to Prevent Drunk Driving under Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act"

  The Government of Guyana is taking a stand against drunk driving. The Attorney General's Chambers has issued a warning to bar owners and operators regarding the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing (Amendment) Act 2022. Under the Act, license holders are required to play a more active role in the prevention of drinking and driving. This comes as the Government continues to be concerned with the senseless deaths on our roadways, which are often caused by drunk driving. License holders are mandated to impose obligations on drivers at their establishments, including verifying the age of customers, discouraging drinking and driving, and not permitting drunkenness or any violent, quarrelsome, or riotous conduct to take place on their premises. License holders are also required to ensure that customers have designated drivers if they are likely to leave the premises by driving.
