Breaking News: Fisherman Accused of Attempted Murder in Corentyne

A Corentyne fisherman has been remanded for attempted murder after a brawl at a bar last Sunday. Mohamed Fazar Ally, a 21-year-old fisherman from Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, appeared at the Springsland Magistrate’s Court where he was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

It is alleged that on April 9th, Ally attempted to murder Avinash Sumintra, a 29-year-old labourer, at the Caliente Bar and Restaurant in Number 78 Village Public Road. Sumintra is still hospitalised, nursing stab wounds to his face, neck and abdomen.

According to the police, Ally and a 17-year-old boy were in the bar when an argument broke out between them and Sumintra. After leaving the bar, Ally and the teenager waited outside for Sumintra, armed with knives. When Sumintra came out, they began stabbing him.

The police have reported that they are still investigating the incident and the file is incomplete. The prosecutor informed the court of this, and Magistrate Renita Singh remanded Ally until May 4th.
