"Crossing the Line: A Tragic Incident on Rupert Craig Highway"

Tragedy struck on Tuesday evening when a 69-year-old woman, identified as Kissoondia Sewratan, lost her life after being hit by a minibus while crossing the Rupert Craig Highway in East Coast Demerara (ECD). Sewratan, who was a resident of La Bonne Intention, was reportedly on her way home when the incident occurred in the vicinity of Movietowne around 6:20 pm. The driver of the minibus, a 39-year-old businessman from Seaforth Street, Campbelleville, Georgetown, was allegedly driving east along the northern drive lane of the highway when Sewratan ran across the road. The driver claimed that he could not slow down in time and ended up crashing into her, causing her to fall onto the roadway with injuries. An ambulance was called to the scene, and Sewratan was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The driver is currently in custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation. The incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution while using the roads and to always be aware of pedestrians.
