Give the PPP a Chance to Run Georgetown: Bharrat Jagdeo Appeals to Residents
General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, is appealing to residents of Georgetown to give his party a chance to govern the city at the local government level when elections are held in June. Speaking to a gathering outside the party’s Freedom House headquarters on Robb Street, Jagdeo stated that since independence 57 years ago, the PPP has never gotten a chance to manage the city.
Jagdeo stressed that the PPP has done a remarkable job in bringing about positive change at the national level, and it is now time for them to bring their expertise to the city level. He reasoned that every time the PPP has been in office, the country has moved forward, and more people are getting access to jobs, education, and healthcare. The party is now focused on developing communities across the country.
According to Jagdeo, the opposition has done nothing to change the lives of people in the city, and they have been in control of Georgetown for 57 years since independence. He pleaded with residents of the Garden City to give his party a chance at the upcoming polls and reiterated that the PPP has never had the opportunity to run the city and show that the same things they have done at the national level can be replicated in Georgetown.
Jagdeo also spoke about the responsibilities of the Georgetown City Council, which includes fixing roads, managing drainage, and spearheading garbage collection. He stated that every cent that the central government transfers to City Hall, they find a way to spend it on themselves and not development. The PPP wants a team in City Hall that will focus on helping the residents of the city.
Ahead of the elections, two members of the opposition PNC, former Mayor Patricia Chase-Green and Trichia Richards, have joined the PPP, along with entertainer and DJ Malcolm Ferreira, two national athletes, Jeremy Garrett and Keevin Allicock, and several prominent businessmen, including Stephen Jacobs and Nazar ‘Shell’ Mohamed, who will be running as PPP candidates.
In conclusion, the PPP is urging residents of Georgetown to give them a chance to run the city and bring about positive change for the people. The upcoming local government elections will be a crucial time for the people of Georgetown to make their voices heard and choose the party that they believe will best serve their interests.
The upcoming local government elections in Georgetown are expected to be closely contested, with both the PPP and the opposition PNC vying for control of the city council. The PPP is hoping that their message of positive change and development will resonate with the residents of the city, who have long been frustrated with the state of the roads, drainage, and garbage collection.
The addition of former PNC members to the PPP is a significant development, as it suggests that there is growing dissatisfaction with the opposition's leadership and policies. It also shows that the PPP is willing to work with anyone who shares their vision for a better future for all Guyanese.
The PPP's focus on community development is particularly noteworthy, as it demonstrates their commitment to ensuring that all Guyanese have access to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive. By working closely with communities across the country, the PPP hopes to create a more inclusive and equitable society, where everyone has a chance to succeed.
If the PPP is successful in winning control of the city council, they will have a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Georgetown residents. By investing in infrastructure, improving services, and creating new economic opportunities, the PPP hopes to create a brighter future for all Guyanese.
In the end, the choice is up to the residents of Georgetown. They have the power to decide who will lead their city council and shape their future. By carefully considering the issues and the candidates, they can make an informed decision that will have a lasting impact on their lives and their community.
