Guyanese Woman Arrested for Alleged Death Threats Against President Ali

A Guyanese woman has been taken into police custody for making alleged death threats against President Dr. Irfaan Ali. The woman, identified as 59-year-old KIM Ali, was captured on video making the threats at the Diamond Market Tarmac in the presence of vendors. The video has since gone viral on social media, attracting over 2,000 views on Tik Tok alone.

In the video, KIM Ali can be heard using racial slurs and making derogatory remarks against the person who recorded the threats. She stated, "The President needs to be assassinated," a statement that has been taken very seriously by authorities.

The woman has been taken into custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters for questioning. This incident has sparked outrage among the public, with many speaking out against the actions of KIM Ali, noting that it is unacceptable and cannot be condoned.

It is not the first time such threats have been made against President Ali. In June 2022, a protestor was filmed threatening to harm the President amidst demonstrations calling for justice for Quindon Bacchus, who was purportedly killed by a police officer. Additionally, in December 2022, a Nigerian national stormed State House, the official residence of the President and his family, and attempted to murder a Presidential Guard while discharging a loaded firearm during the brazen attack. The attacker, Bethel Ikena Chimezie, is currently on remand for the crime.

Threats against elected officials are taken very seriously by law enforcement, and those found making such statements can face serious legal consequences. While free speech is protected, threats of violence are not and can result in criminal charges.
