Presidential Guard Killed in Horrific Car Crash on East Bank Demerara

Today an accident in East Bank Demerara claimed the life of a 24-year-old Police Corporal who was attached to the Presidential Guard Unit. Avandel Narine, also known as “Kevin”, of New Market Street, Georgetown, was stationed at Castellani House.

According to police reports, the accident occurred at approximately 06:20h in Coverden, East Bank Demerara. At the time, the vehicle, a silver grey Land Cruiser Jeep with the registration number PAD 3849, was occupied by three other individuals, including 22-year-old Cassie Atkinson of Kitty, Georgetown, who was also injured in the crash.

As a result of the collision, the vehicle sustained significant damage, and the driver had to be rescued from the vehicle by the police and citizens in an unconscious state, along with the other occupants. They were then transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, East Bank Demerara, where Corporal Narine was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. Atkinson was examined and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where she was admitted to the Female Surgical Ward.
