Robbers with Toy Gun Steal $70,000 from Businessman in Berbice: News Guyana
A businessman was robbed of $70,000 on Saturday morning while conducting business along the Rose Hall Town public road, Corentyne Berbice. Parshram Sukraj, a 24-year-old money changer, was confronted by two bandits shortly after he arrived at the location. One of them held him at knife-point while the other demanded he hand over all his money.
Sukraj fought back when the second bandit whipped out what appeared to be a gun. However, during the commotion, a traffic cop who witnessed the robbery chased after the bandits. One of the bandits dropped the ‘firearm’ which was later taken to the Police Station for inspection, where it was discovered to be a toy gun.
Although the bandits managed to grab only $70,000, they were still able to escape.
News Guyana has learned that a person of interest has since been arrested for questioning.
It is unfortunate that crimes like these continue to occur, but the quick actions of the traffic cop and the subsequent arrest of a person of interest provide hope that justice will be served.
