"Truck Driver Stabbed to Death in Late-Night Robbery in Eccles"
According to investigations, Sears had left his workplace headquarters in Herstelling, EBD, in a Motor Canter GYY-2428 to conduct company business at Sarah Johanna, EBD, at around 6:00 pm on the day of the incident. He was scheduled to return to the company's headquarters to conclude his work for the day.
Another driver working for a separate company told investigators that he was also driving a motor lorry and had traveled to Hope, EBD, along with other workers. While returning to their company's parking lot in Eccles, one of the porters on the lorry informed him that Kerry Sears, who had previously worked with their company, was signaling for them to stop.
The 45-year-old lorry driver stopped and parked his vehicle on the southern side of the Eccles Dump Site Road, while Sears pulled up in the Motor Canter and parked behind their truck. They all got out of their respective vehicles and began conversing on the road. It was at this point that the perpetrators appeared, holding them at gunpoint.
During the robbery, the 22-year-old porter of Industrial Site, Eccles, was robbed of a cellular phone valued at $25,000 and $16,000 in cash, and the 19-year-old worker was relieved of a cellular phone valued at $30,000 and a silver band valued at $5,000 in cash. A confrontation ensued between one of the perpetrators and Kerry Sears, which led to Sears being stabbed in the chest. He ran through a street on the northern side of Dump Site Road before collapsing.
Police and ambulance services were called to the scene, where Sears was pronounced dead by a doctor. The body was examined and a stab wound was found on the chest area. The body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour and placed into cold storage awaiting a Post-mortem examination.
Several individuals, including the driver and other occupants of the motor lorry, were interviewed and are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation. The tragic incident has once again highlighted the importance of community safety and the need for increased security measures to combat violent crime.
